The Rising was begun in January of 2006. It was initially a small group of college students meeting Sunday mornings that wanted to see God create an alternative worship gathering for young adults on Sunday evenings. We met for a year on Sunday evenings at 5 p.m. growing as Christians, serving our community, and actually getting smaller in number. Then in the winter of 2007 God began to work in the lives of many of the people at The Rising and more people began to come. The small group of worshipers finally grew large enough to make the worship gathering feel comfortable. The entire time we continued to serve our community, expand the ministries, and get involved missionally both over seas as well as locally in the city of Pomona.
In the summer of 2007 the mostly college worship gathering had turned into a community of young adults spanning a much larger age range. The Rising began to target ministering to anyone 40 and under, while being open to all ages. Post-college ministry was formed and quickly grew in number. In the fall of 2008 a second worship gathering was begun making two total. We worshiped Sundays at 5 and 7:15 p.m. with a $2 dinner in between the services so people could meet and build community. The Rising Kids was begun offering childcare at the 5 p.m. service. Space was limited at the worship gatherings at times and the vision to combine the services and enter the 2,000 seat main worship center began.
On June 14, 2009 The Rising combined the worship gatherings for one larger service at 6pm in preparation for the launch into the main worship center September 13, 2009. This small group of college students has turned into a combined community of hundreds of worshipers from a broad age range.
On February 17, 2010 The Rising worship service officially moved to Wednesday nights to become the fourth worship service of the church! This has been an incredible opportunity to reach more for the kingdom. Week after week, people have surrendered their lives to Christ and we can't wait to see where else God takes it! We're very excited and covet your prayers!
Small groups have always been a large emphasis of The Rising. Be sure to check out the small groups link under the "connect" tab to find out all the options for bible studies and small groups. We have groups that meet multiple days and times of the week, including our soon to launch Post-college and college age community groups following the Wednesday night service each week.
Being a missional community has always been a major focus of the ministry - to unashamedly proclaim the Kingdom of God, while loving others as Christ loved us. We now run and support a large number of ministries, which you can check out under the "serve" tab above.
